1-2: Understanding the Building Blocks

Welcome to your first lesson! Before we build anything, let's understand the three simple building blocks that make everything work: tables, rows, and columns.

Don't worry—if you've ever used Excel or Google Sheets, this will feel familiar. But Uniki adds something special: these spreadsheets come alive and do work for you automatically!

1-2.1: Tables - Your Workspace

Think of a table like a spreadsheet, but one that's alive and does work for you.

💡 💡 Think of It Like This

A regular spreadsheet just sits there holding data. A Uniki table is like having a team of assistants working inside your spreadsheet—automatically processing information, connecting to other tools, and getting things done while you watch.

What Tables Track

Each table tracks one type of thing:

  • Customer Conversations → One table to track all your customer chats
  • Customer Orders → One table to track all orders from your store
  • Sales Leads → One table to track all potential customers
  • Support Tickets → One table to track all customer questions
  • Content Ideas → One table to track all your blog posts or social content

The rule is simple: One table = one type of thing you're working on.

See It In Action

Here's what an empty table looks like when you create it:

Customer Conversations

Each table tracks one type of thing

Customer Name
Question
AI Response
Status

Your workspace is ready!

Add rows to start tracking conversations

Customer Conversations
One row per customer chat
Customer Orders
One row per order
Sales Leads
One row per potential customer

💡 What You're Seeing

This is your workspace! Notice:

  • The table has a name at the top ("Customer Conversations")
  • It has columns for different pieces of information
  • It's empty and ready for you to add rows

Each table is like opening a new spreadsheet—you start with a blank slate and build from there.

1-2.2: Rows - Each Instance

Now let's add some life to that empty table. Each row represents one instance of whatever your table tracks.

💡 💡 Think of It Like This

If your table is "Customer Conversations," then:

  • Row 1 = Sarah's conversation
  • Row 2 = Mike's conversation
  • Row 3 = Emily's conversation

Each row is one customer, one order, one conversation, one thing.

See All Your Items At Once

This is where Uniki shines—you can see everything at once:

Customer Conversations

Each row = one conversation

Customer Question AI Response Status
Sarah Johnson What are your business hours? We're open Monday-Friday 9am-6pm EST... Complete
Mike Chen Do you ship internationally? Yes! We ship to over 50 countries... Complete
Emily Rodriguez Can I cancel my order? You can cancel within 24 hours... Complete
David Park What's your return policy? AI is thinking... Processing
👀
See all your conversations at once!
Each row represents one customer conversation. You can quickly scan to see what's happening with everyone.

💡 Why This Matters

In most tools, your conversations happen one-by-one in separate places. You can't see them all together.

With Uniki, you can see all your conversations at once. Scan down the table to quickly check:

  • ✅ Which conversations are complete?
  • ⏳ Which ones are still being processed?
  • 👀 Who needs a response?

It's like having your entire inbox spread out in front of you!

Adding Rows is Easy

There are three ways to add rows:

  1. Type manually - Click "+ Add Row" and type information directly
  2. Import a file - Upload a CSV or Excel file with your data
  3. Automatic - Connect to email, website forms, or other tools that create rows automatically when new things arrive

We'll practice all of these as we build together!

1-2.3: Columns - Actions That Happen

Here's where the magic happens. Each column is a step in your process—something that happens to each row.

💡 💡 Think of It Like This

Imagine an assembly line in a factory:

  • Station 1: Receive the part
  • Station 2: Paint it blue
  • Station 3: Add wheels
  • Station 4: Pack it for shipping

Each station does one job. Parts move down the line. Your Uniki table works the same way—columns are stations, rows are items flowing through!

Two Types of Columns

✍️
Some columns you fill in
Like customer name, order details, or notes. You type these manually or import from a file.
Some columns work automatically
Like AI responses, data lookups, or sending emails. These happen by themselves as soon as they have what they need.
🏭
Think of it like an assembly line
Each column does one job. Some need information from earlier columns before they can start (like the AI needs the question first). Others can work at the same time. Your data flows through the columns automatically, step by step!

Manual columns - You fill these in yourself:

  • Customer name
  • Order details
  • Notes or comments
  • Anything you type manually

Automatic columns - These work by themselves:

  • AI generates a response
  • Look up company information
  • Send an email
  • Create a task in another tool
  • Calculate totals or scores

Columns Work in Sequence

Here's the clever part: columns automatically know what order to work in!

If the "AI Response" column needs the "Customer Question" first, it waits. Once you type in the question, the AI Response column automatically starts working.

You don't have to tell it "now run step 1, now run step 2." It figures out the order by itself based on what each column needs.

💡 Real Example

Manual Column: You type "What are your business hours?"

↓ (Automatic)

AI Column: Automatically reads the question, searches your knowledge base, and writes "We're open Monday-Friday 9am-6pm EST..."

↓ (Automatic)

Status Column: Automatically marks it as "Complete"

You just typed one thing, and the rest happened by itself!

1-2.4: The Magic - Automatic Updates

Let's see how it all comes together. Watch what happens when you add a new row:

Watch the Magic Happen

Status updates automatically as work gets done

AI is thinking...

1
New row added
Customer question arrives

Searching knowledge base and generating response
Response ready!
AI answer appears in the cell
You don't click "Run" every time
Once you set up your columns, they work automatically. Add a new row, and watch the magic happen step by step. All you do is watch—or click into any cell to see what happened!

💡 What Just Happened?

You added a row with a customer question → The table automatically:

  1. Started processing - You see the status change to "Processing"
  2. 🤖 AI got to work - Searching knowledge and generating a response
  3. Finished - Status updated to "Complete" when done

You didn't click "Run" or "Start" or "Execute." It just happened!

Real-Time Visibility

One of the coolest things about Uniki is that you can watch everything happen in real-time:

  • See status badges change from "Waiting" → "Processing" → "Complete"
  • Watch cells fill in as work gets done
  • Click any cell to see exactly what happened
  • Spot errors instantly if something goes wrong

This is completely different from traditional automation tools where your workflows run invisibly in the background. With Uniki, everything is visible!

1-2.5: Putting It All Together

Let's review what you've learned:

📋

Tables

Your workspace for tracking one type of thing

📝

Rows

Each instance - one customer, one order, one conversation

Columns

Steps that happen - some manual, some automatic

💡 🎉 You're Ready!

Congratulations! You now understand the three building blocks:

  • Tables are workspaces for tracking one type of thing
  • Rows are individual instances (one per customer, order, etc.)
  • Columns are steps that happen (manual or automatic)
  • Everything updates automatically once you set it up

This is all you need to know to start building. The rest is just learning which columns to use for different tasks!

What You've Learned

In just a few minutes, you've mastered the fundamentals of Uniki:

  1. Tables organize your work into one workspace per "type of thing"
  2. Rows let you see all your items at once (all customers, all orders, all conversations)
  3. Columns are steps in your process—some you fill in, some work automatically
  4. Automatic execution means work happens by itself as soon as each column has what it needs
  5. Real-time visibility lets you watch everything happen and click any cell to investigate

Try This Mental Exercise

Think of something you do repeatedly at work:

  • Answering customer questions?
  • Processing orders?
  • Qualifying sales leads?
  • Creating content?

Imagine it as a table:

  • What would each row represent? (One customer? One order? One lead?)
  • What columns would you need? (Which steps happen?)
  • Which columns would you fill in? (Manual)
  • Which could happen automatically? (AI, lookups, sending emails)

That's your first Uniki table! In the next section, we'll look at the actual interface and find where everything lives.
